"In 2014 when I started working out at Shockyard it had been many years since I had followed any kind of physical fitness routine. I was nervous that I would a) drop out or b) die of embarrassment. Casey and Laura made sure that neither one happened. They guided me through a round of personal training which helped me feel confident enough to join Strength Training Classes twice a week. Those classes are the most fun I have ever had doing physical fitness, as well as being very beneficial to my over all well-being. I am stronger than I have been in decades, and my posture and muscle-tone are greatly improved. I’m currently walking at least 2 miles every day, and doing the morning exercise class, and I look forward to both activities, even when they are (very) early in the morning. "I've been going to ShockYard since they opened. I've always struggled with finding workouts that I've enjoyed doing and that I would stick with besides running. Not only do I thoroughly enjoy every single workout I've ever done there, but the fun and positive approach to workouts makes everything go by so quickly. I participate in the roller girl boot camps and love that they offer it! The personal workouts are targeted toward things that I've been wanting to improve on for years. I'm so clumsy, but I feel like even my balance has improved! "I live on the Cape and drive 30 minutes (OVER THE BRIDGE!!) for 6:30 AM workouts with Laura and Casey ---- and it's worth every minute and every penny. They play music that *you* want to listen to, they motivate and inspire you, they gently and knowledgeably correct your form, they help you get fitter and stronger. The best thing is--- they are FUN! Working out at ShockYard Fitness and Social Club is a total pleasure from start to finish. We are always laughing, smiling and frequently busting into spontaneous dance parties when I am there. Several times throughout the workout you can hear me saying "This is so much fun!" or "This is awesome!" I used to struggle with staying in a gym routine, but working out with these girls doesn't feel like a drag or a chore, it feels like fitness date with inspiring and fun friends. "A month ago I decided that this couch potato needed to get into shape for basic health reasons. I wanted to be able to bike distances and play sports as in an over 40 soccer and possibly hockey league. I met both Laura and Casey owners of The ShockYard Fitness & Social Club at different networking venue. At some of these venues they spoke of their fitness club and how they tailor made program(s) that would be setup for each individual person. I called up one day and asked the owners if I could come and see their fitness facility and talk to them on how they would tailor make a program for me. After an hour and one half I was totally sold. They reviewed my health, current fitness activities, what I was looking to do in becoming physically fit, and evaluated my current physical fitness; in other words what sports or activities was I interested in participating down the road. They were extremely professional in their approach to interviewing me, my needs and planning a program that would start out slowly and gradually work up to a more rigorous workout. My mind was made up and I joined right then!

"I've had three months now of fitness by ShockYard, and it's great! I'm an older client, with a long list of special problems and goals -- some things that don't bend that never will or should again, other things that don't bend that definitely should, some balance problems, etc., etc. Trying to modify exercises on the fly in standard group classes to fit this list is tricky, demoralizing, and depressing. You don't get depressed at ShockYard. You get a good mix of things you're good at and bad at, and the exercises target real-world strength and coordination, not muscle isolation for body builders. Except for the ukulele that one time, the music they use is great too!" -Barb Finlay

"I belong to a regular gym and will continue to do so. It has lots of equipment, a basketball court, a pool, nice locker room with showers, steam and sauna. But I also have been going to the Shock Yard for over a month. They don't have all those features my regular gym has, but here's why I go:
1. Motivation. Laura and Casey work with me closely and monitor my progress. I rarely miss a session because they will want to know why. It's easy to skip for weeks at time with a regular gym, but not here.
2. Personal training. Technically it's small group training, but often the group is just me. If I start to do the exercise wrong, the will correct me right then and there. Yes, my regular gym has personal trainers, too. I just don't like the atmosphere - too many people gawking, and it's very expensive.
3. Enjoyment. If you like exercise for exercise's sake. You don't need any gym. But if you don't find it fun, you'll stop doing it. Every session we have laughs and I can honestly say I look forward to exercising.
4. Results. I am losing weight and gaining muscle mass. My balance has improved and so has my strength. They chart my progress and I can see the results in black and white." -Peter McMahon
